Mariam Puvogel

Puvogel is a research assistant in the ‘Alternativen Aufzeigen’ (putting a spotlight on alternatives) project. She is responsible for the concept and content development of videos and teaching materials. Having studied politics, with an emphasis on international relations, in Berlin and Beirut she subsequently went on to do postgraduate work at the Peace and Conflict Study Department at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy (IFSH) in Hamburg. Her research focus is on confessional conflicts in Islam, inner-state conflicts in the Middle East and racialism in the migration society. Prior to this, she worked as a political advisor in the area of refugees/displaced individuals and developed concepts for the prevention of gender-specific violence. At the Issam Fares Institute in Beirut, she researched the effects of the Syrian War on Sunni-Shiite relations. She gained experience in educational work with young adults in a Berlin-Kreuzberg-based pilot project with underage, unaccompanied refugees and also at the ‘Ajial’ youth education program in Lebanon.
