SYNERGIE by Yxus Ensemble

The Yxus Ensemble is the most important Estonian group for contemporary classical music. In Hellerau and at Kampnagel the Ensemble will play six pieces by Arvo Pärt, as well as compositions by Galina Grigorjeva, Malle Maltis, Mirjam Tally, Veljo Tormis und Erkki-Sven Tüür. Sacral music and folk songs are the inspiration for this evening.

As successors of the NYYD-Ensemble, Yxus has set itself the task of performing foreign works in Estonia, while performing pieces by Estonian composers outside Estonia. International concert tours have taken Yxus to New York and Washington D.C., where the ensemble played sold-out performances. Yxus doesn’t play individual concerts but organises performance series dedicated to specific subjects.

The programme in Hellerau revolves around existential questions. Erkki-Sven Tüür’s music creates an organic system of energetic transformations. Veljo Tormis’s work revolves around the anthropological significance of song. And “Mirror in Mirror”, one of Arvo Pärt’s pieces, is based on a clear, polished form, which appears to permit a glimpse of eternity.
