With HYPERFRUIT, two performers bring the internet to the stage, with all the limitations that it means for interpersonal relations. What will become of intimate communication, if usual developments like “1, 2, 3” are replaced by “1, 2, dog, Beyoncé“?

Joanna Nordahl and Ludvig Daae are both artists and travel constantly. Their relationships mostly take place online, and this led to the realisation that it is very difficult to have a fulfilling relationship this way. The internet becomes a necessary evil instead of facilitating the communication in a relationship, while glorifying the relationship itself and the partner on the other side of the screen.

Nordahl und Daae take their experiences as a starting point from which to examine what happens when the internet and our online communication are used to structure a dance performance. What is the difference between physical and digital communication, measured by their emotional impact?

HYPERFRUIT doesn’t show the internet itself, but creates a situation that functions according to the conditions of the internet. The atmosphere is infused by a strong desire for closeness and intimacy, while the barriers to communication inhibit the dancers relationship to each other as well as the audience.
