Samlingen

Athi-Patra Ruga

Samlingen means 'the collection' or 'the assembly', and is a choreographic project that facilitates a common interest in choreography and feminism intertwined with dance history. It is about how we relate to history, how we think about working together, the hierarchies between work roles, who gets to be the boss and who should be the boss, the whiteness of the black box, the money, the sick leave and parental leave, about working only with people you want to sleep with, about stealing ideas, about feeling like you never will become anything and everyone already knows that. These things, the major dilemmas of living in relationship with dance, can be brought up in Samlingen.
Amanda Apetrea (SE), Nadja Hjorton (SE), Halla Ólafsdóttir (IS), Stina Nyberg (SE) and Zoë Poluch (CA) initiated Samlingen in Sweden in 2013. Since then Samlingen has collaborated with the Cullberg Ballet, Kulturhuset Stockholm, Riksteatern (Swedish national touring theatre), as key note speakers at the POSTDANCE Conference at MDT and as workshop leaders at Local Practice. Internationally Samlingen has participated in the Works at Work-festival (DK), Batard festival and publication (BE), and Danske Dansehistorier (Danish Dance Histories, DK). Samlingen is currently working on the project The Swedish Ballet (2020-2025).
