Thomas Meinecke

Thomas Meinecke, born 1955 in Hamburg, is a German author and columnist. Between 1978 and 1986 he was co-editor of the avant-garde magazine ‘Mode und Verzweiflung’. During the eighties he wrote columnes for ZEIT. Since 1986 Meinecke writes his own novels and narratives, his latest novel being ‘Selbst’ (2016, Suhrkamp Verlag). Between 2007 and 2013 he was columnist of the Berlin magazine ‘Groove’. Meinecke has recieved many awards for his work, including the ‘Düsseldorfer Literaturpreis’ (2003) and the Karl-Sczuka-Award for audio drama (2008). In 2012 he was associate professor for poetics at the Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt Main, 2014 he was Writer in Residence at the Queen Mary University in London. Apart from writing, he plays in the band FSK and is a radio DJ.
