Vanasay Khamphommala, Je viens chanter chez toi toute nue en échange d’un repas (Ich singe für dich nackt im Austausch gegen eine Mahlzeit)

In this show, the artist used to travel to someone‘s home and to sing for them naked in exchange for a meal. The performance can be seen as a response to the pandemic context that revealed the fragility of our cultural rituals. It proposes to reduce cultural exchanges to their bare essentials, to replace proximity with intimacy, and to transform our vulnerability into the basis for both emotional and ethical encounters. Simultaneously, it is an attempt to disrupt the commodification of culture in a Western context by going back to a traditional form of exchange that makes away with money: food in exchange for a performance, a practice that is still active in rural Laos, where Vanasay’s father was born. A radical attempt at a different economy and ecology of culture. For the festival the work will be shown as performance installation at Kampnagel. Supported by Institut Français

L’invocation à la muse (Die Anrufung der Muse)

L’invocation à la muse stages a poet suffering from writer’s block who calls on the muses for help to improvise a poem for the audience. But instead of the ancient deities, a queer muse appears. Since antiquity, the figure of the muse has been a projection screen for a sexist, white, slightly eroticised understanding of artistic creation. But the history of the arts, the diversity of artistic processes and of the artists themselves and the diversity of their experiences has proven time and again that this concept must give way to new representations. Juli Apponen & Jon R. Skulberg, Everything Remains

Everything Remains‪ is part two in a trilogy by JULI/JON, exploring the potential of a weak body. It is a choreography designed for a tired body. A minimalistic and poetic encounter with an autobiography made up of physical transformations of gender, pain and limitations. With her archive of memories and experiences, Juli Apponen is utilized as subject matter. Everything in the performance stems from concrete experiences of operations, chronic pain and the physical body as an interchangeable and editable material. ‬Everything Remains‪ is a reflection on weakness and an exploration of the potential that can be found within tiredness and limitations. What do we do when these conditions dominate? Through silent insistence, the audience is invited into a story about a body, a person and a human experience.‬

Andreas Constantinout, Champions

How does a body set itself in motion when its surroundings are fundamentally precarious and harmful? In Precarious Moves Michael Turinsky continues his investigation of resistant choreographic positionings. At the center of the solo, which is as much biographical as conceptual, lies the questioning of his personal as well as the collective needs for mobility and mobilization. Oscillating between the organic and the organized, the performance unfolds as an ironic and engaged intervention that connects the body with the sensual world through which it moves.

Ursina Tossi, Fux

With FUX, Hamburg-based choreographer Ursina Tossi develops a performance for younger and older audiences that makes accessibility for people with (visual) disabilities the artistic tool of her own choreographic practice for the first time. FUX is a dance performance about climate change and species extinction.

VANASAY KHAMPHOMALLA, ELECTA BEHRENS & VERENA BRAKONIER:
PRIVILEGES IN THE ARTS

MODERATION: DUDUZILE MATHONSI

The privilege of art is a long-standing conversation and we can’t deny the elitism within the art world. Privilege in art is also part of racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, heterosexism, nativism, classismrace, disablism and gender. A panel about the power of definition in art, about exclusions and resistances.

Sindri Runudde, The Fishing Dance & Other Cosmic Confessions

HE FISHING DANCE & OTHER COSMIC CONFESSIONS is a conceptual album and workout program consisting of seven different dances with specific purposes. Powered by “radical pedagogy”, Sindri Runudde works from the premise that everybody has knowledge and experience, and every story owns a dance. With five dancers on stage, the seven songs intertwine with music and personal stories. Sindri Runudde is a dancer and choreographer who works from a queer feminist perspective and from lived experience. Their approach and artistry is unique through the ability to connect deep existential themes to pop-culture and accessible concepts in a very successful way.

My undying love//Songs of grief

My undying Love/ Songs of grief – HIMHERANDIT/Vanasay Khamphommala present an award-winning, intimate, multidisciplinary piece in which up to 5 audience members participate in an immersive performance. A collaborative work that simultaneously tells a universal story about death and love. The audience is immersed in an expansive installation and formulates a love letter to all things human. Between ritual, visual art storytelling, a 3d sound installation and a 360° video panorama, experiences of letting go and finding again are shared. With "Songs of grief" Vanasay Khampommala opens a second space, a space of silence, of music, of voice. It is a place of reverberation, of "aftercare" in which ephemeral, ever-changing and participatory soundscapes are created. "My undying love" was awarded the Scenekunstens Priser Award 2021 and was nominated for the Reumert Award and the Aarhus Stage Art Award 2022.

The performance will be in English/German.

ORPHEUS + EURYDICE – The Orphic Cycles

The ancient material about the (im)mortal love between Orpheus and Eurydice is present in countless adaptations. This is hardly surprising since it’s the elementary motives of humanity that are discussed here: love, art, and death. The popular myth itself is derived from the even older story about Demeter, who lost her daughter Persephone to Hades and the underworld. In her honor, mystic celebrations of several days were held in ancient Greece, through which dances, making music together, singing, screaming, and lamenting became central elements of the ritualistic search for Persephone.

The multidisciplinary Icelandic artist Erna Ómarsdóttir reinterprets the myth of Orpheus in five cycles of eternal growth and decay, intertwining ancient and Indo-European legends as well as contemporary subjects. With a mixed cast of actors from the Freiburg Theater and dancers from the Iceland Dance Company, she examines the metamorphoses and reproductive forces of culture and art, which over time have made Mother Earth a skilled lyre player and her offspring his tragic bride, who follows her husband silently and on soft soles.

In her new borderline-musical, Erna Ómarsdóttir questions the dualisms of life and death, understanding and feeling, artistic creation and silence, man and woman … – Who has the Golden Fleece? Where do the snakes come from? And does Eurydice actually want to go back to the (upper) world?

Nordwind Festival Grand Opening: HAUS–Party with Mable Preach & Friends

An embracing festival begins with a dignified reception: The artistic structure of the evening is based on the principle of the “houses” of the voguing ballroom scene with its origins in New York in the 1960s, which offer their members a family network outside their biological family of origin, to which they often have no or a poor relationship due to their queerness. With the various “houses”, the HAUS-PARTY enables different performers to have artistic encounters and the audience to gain first insights into the aesthetic diversity of the festival – interdisciplinary, multimedia, and spectacular. Supported by: Hamburger Kulturbehörde

Duduzile Mathonsi, Bitch where the Fuck is my Manifesto?!

BITCH WHERE THE FUCK IS MY MANIFESTO?! is a one-woman show: written, directed and performed by Duduzile Mathonsi. The solo production investigates the narratives of the black female body and centralises the black female experience, giving space to address the body’s agency, exploring the sexuality and vulnerability of a black woman. Therefore reclaiming and attempting to indigenize space. The work uses space to create different shifts of the spectacle vs. spectator. Eight years ago Dudzile moved from South Africa to one of the northernmost cities in Norway, in that sense her work talks about issues of migration and the idea of home as well. Supported by the Norwegian Embassy

Claire Cunningham, Thank You Very Much

Choreographer Claire Cunningham and her ensemble of leading disabled performers invite you to join them for an evening at the Kampnagel as they pull back the curtain on the glittering and mysterious world of the tribute artist. Thank You Very Much takes to the floor with wit, glitz and a pulsating soundtrack. A performance that navigates up, down and all around society’s ideas of normality, and shakes up the myth of how bodies should be. The dancers pull on their sparkling costumes and ask: Who have we been trying to be all our lives? Has it ever been our choice? And what really is “the wonder of you”? ERNA ÓMARSDÓTTIR / HALLA ÓLAFSDÓTTIR: ROMEO & JULIA

ERNA OMARSDOTTIR / HALLA OLAFSDOTTIR: ROMEO & JULIET

ROMEO AND JULIET created by Icelandic choreographers Erna Ómarsdóttir and Halla Ólafsdóttir has very little to do with amorous whisperings and tender declarations of love. Ómarsdóttir und Ólafsdóttir use the musical template of Sergei Prokoviev’s famous ballet music as the basis for a completely new type of dance creation which tells its audience in often radical images a story of the essence of the different genders – of their mutual attraction, but also of their constant conflict. The fact that this brings explicit representations of violence and sexual symbolism to the stage is absolutely typical of the intense imagery used by these choreographers. The production is nominated for the German Theatre Award Der Faust 2019 in the category “Choreography”.

MADAME NIELSEN: EIN ABEND MIT AUSSTELLUNG, LESUNG UND KONZERT

Madame Nielsen’s playful handling of gender roles and unassignable self-perception and external perception disturbs and impresses at the same time and blurs clear boundaries of orientation. This makes her/him one of the most controversial, fascinating and diverse contemporary artists* and authors* in Denmark and far beyond. Her novel “The Endless Summer”, published in German in 2018, was enthusiastically received by the press and the public. So it’s high time to finally dive back into the universe of this multi-faceted artist with an evening of music, literature and exhibition.

ELECTRODOMESTICS

For their performance
Electrodomestics, Constanza Macras and Adham Hafez founded a collective for ‘domestic affairs’.
In a lively and inspiring mixture of a cooking show, a concert, a performance, an expert discussion and dance, the group investigates the concepts of cultural background and identity. Based on the performers’ circles of family and friends, the group uses their
social surroundings to explore phenomena like collectivity and nationality. The audience cooks, eats and joins in the discussion and in this way are pushed to their own boundaries and stigmata, but also unexpected openness. The boundaries between the performers and the audience are blurred and together they open up a space for exchange, togetherness and spontaneous, creative eruptions.

BETWEEN US: THE KAUNDA SUIT / CHAPTER [EXCERPT II]

n her ongoing body of work, Between Us, Syowia Kyambi asks the question: to what extent do clothes create an identity and how can social roles be transformed through pieces of clothing. Taking the Kaunda suit as her starting point; a suit that was considered a symbol of prestige in Kenya during African independence movement, is now worn by low-level service staff, the artist examines the way social roles are ascribed and social expectations through various different costumes. How much is clothing to be read as an expression of nationalities, genders and status? What personal traits are emphasised or hidden using clothing? Mirrors installed in the space throw the questions back at the audience and always locate the performance on the line between voyeurism and participation.

Je(u) mit Publikum : eine Improvisation

Is it possible to experience the body and movement simultaneously in dance so that the movement no longer oppresses the body, hides it, even denies it in order to achieve a two-dimensional visual aesthetic? But instead the opposite, to give it back its three-dimensionality, its weight, its materiality, so that the body can be experienced by both the dancers and the audience at the same time? In collaboration with the Swedish dancer Mikael Marklund, with Je(u), Laurent Chétouane has developed a game with oneself in one’s own foreignness, a serious game with the fall from verticality and perhaps a melancholy game with the self in the mirror on the floor: an experience of time.

The pieces Je(u) by Laurent Chétouane and Gula by Vincent Sekwati Koko Mantsoe will be presented for the first time together at NORDWIND and can be seen as a reflection of the different dance traditions in Africa and Europe.

ANAHÍ’S ROOM

For Anahí’s Room, film-maker Ivalo Frank addresses the issue of child abuse in collaboration with five dancers. Based on poems by Jessie Kleemann, the dancers embody the power relationships between people, how memories are inscribed on the body and the arousal of desire against one’s own will. Sensitive and yet still brutal, the boundaries of a person’s own body are sought out, until it loses itself in the powerful taking over of another body. The performance Anahí’s Room, originally developed for a performance film, will be performed live for the first time at NORDWIND.

All the days of our lives

ALL THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES is situated between blasphemy and violent disobedience. In a bid to undo the layers of violence and domination by another over another. This piece isn’t a call to action of any sort, it is in fact a call to inaction and to inflect upon the new being that European migration have created of us all over the last century of colonisation and how those new humans have created orphans who now migrated equally and people the global capitals, with a crude legitimacy for being there.

This open working session is a quest to establish a new tribe, a tribe devoid of stereotypes and preconceived notion.

CLOUD RESIDUE

The digital is omnipresent. It shapes our perception of reality, organises our social life, creates new identities and form networks between people beyond borders and cultures. It monitors every detail of our lives. While the internet is often described as a knowledge carrying project, illuminating and educating, the common user has given up on understanding the underlying mechanisms for their digital existence. In his video and lecture performance Cloud Residue, Remin dives deep beneath the surface of ‘The Cloud’, and reveals contexts and ecological consequences of our increased use of ‘big data’.The audience will be guided through an immersive performance in video, light, data and sound.

NON-ORIENTABLE SURFACES

The symposium Non-Orientable Surfaces that will take place as part of ‘Songs of a melting iceberg – Displaced without moving’ will ask questions about the construction of identities, the concept of culture and physical and mental displacement. The festival will bring artistic voices from the Nordic countries and the African continent together and present their possible future visions and strategies of decolonialisation. The symposium will investigate critical concepts like cultures, nationalities and identity constructions, which are categorised by ‘race’, ‘gender’ and ‘class’, and will attempt to seek out ways of thinking that resist this without ideologically loaded prerequisites. The aim is to break through colonialist patterns of thinking and to find new terminology in the sense of an open language not stigmatised by global positions of power. It will also seek to encourage self-reflection on the part of the audience and the artists, to identify their own incarnated positions and question the ‘white’, ‘Western’ view.

MARTYR MUSEUM

The Martyr Museum is a smaller tour version of the original site-specific piece performed in Copenhagen. What is a martyr, who has the right to use the term and what role has the martyr to play in our contemporary world? Our fascination with heroic characters in not a new phenomenon. Nonetheless, we still wonder what makes people die for an idea. Are today’s martyr’s different from those in the past? And what does it mean to die for one’s convictions?

In the exhibit the doors are being opened to the lives, deeds and deaths of the martyrs. During the visit of the mobile museum the audience is guided by a binaural audio experience through the minds of some of the most well know martyrs in their own genres throughout world history. After the audio experience the visitors will have the opportunity to get a closer look at some of the many reconstructions from the collection of the museum. The exhibition by the artists collective The Other Eye of the Tiger in cooperation with Sort/Hvid presents a wide range of martyrs e.g. Saint Stephen, Jeanne D’Arc, Jan Palach & Omar Ismail Mustafai, who was one of the shooters at the Bataclan in Paris. Informative and objective, the exhibition doesn’t honour the martyrs, but rather sheds light on the different aspects that characterise them and helps the audience to stand in the shoes of the martyrs for a brief moment. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of discussions.

NUIT BLANCHE À OUAGADOUGOU

At a public square at night in Ouagadougou. The country is suddenly awoken. Together some people re-enact the events of the day. “Nuit blanche à Ouagadougou” is inspired by social movements that have shaken Africa in the very recent past. Coulibaly takes a clear political position and has gained international attention. Thus the premiere of the performance coincided with the coup, the people’s uprising against president Blaise Compaoré. Seldom art and reality are as close to each other as here. One of the protagonists of the piece, the rapper Smockey, who wrotes the music and the textes, is among the leaders of the civil rights movement ‘Le balai citoyen’ that brought down Blaise Compaoré’s regime.

JERADA

In her production for the largest contemporary dance company in Norway, the Moroccan choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen invited the entire ensemble to join her at home. In Morocco the Nowegian dancers shared Ouizguen’s artistic cosmos. Accompanied by the energetic Moroccan men’s vocals, the dancers move in circular formations, join in groups that form and dissolve. JERADA makes reference to the subject of non-translatable codes as well as their meanings in constructing identities.

ALEKSI PERÄLÄ

Finnish musician Aleksi Perälä has developed a tone scale that goes beyond classical semitones and is instead composed of 128 tonal sequences. He creates highly diverse experimental sounds – a mix of twilight-ambient music, Erik Satie-style keyboard cameos, mythical and hypnotic sounds and deep, eerie basses and masterfully subtle techno. Perälä will abduct his audience into his inscrutable musical universe during the last night of the Nordwind Festival.

RÉBECCA CHAILLON: CARTE NOIRE NOMMÉE DÉSIR

With her artistic works, Rebécca Chaillon is a critical, controversial voice in France’s post-colonial discourse. In this new work she reflects her situation as a French woman with roots in Martinique, her lived experiences with racism and the paradoxical and multiple tensions when it comes to the subject of love and desire. Her anti-racist and queer attitude in the active struggle for Afro-feminism is the essential basis of Rebecca Chaillon’s artistic work.

SONYA LINDFORS: COSMIC LATTE

“Cosmic Latte” is a name given by researchers for the average colour of the universe. In Sonya Lindfors’ performance the term stands for defining, reimagining and dreaming blackness and black identity. Afrofuturism provides the framework for the radical dreaming that is COSMIC LATTE. The performance plays with the idea of an utopian future where present, future and past are present in a boundless, mysterious in between space. It is the third part of a trilogy in which young choreographer Sonya Lindfors focuses on blackness on stage.

LISA LIE/ PONR: I CLONI

In I CLONI Norwegian director and performer Lisa Lie asks if there exists a death after life. We are at the inn, a place between life and death where strangers meet and share everything simply because they are strangers and there are no consequences. I CLONI takes us on a journey past the edge of the real world where everything dissolves but everyone continues to talk. The doors are now open, transparent to all the evil in the world.

SOLICASINO

No Festival would be complete without this classic form of entertainment-solidarity. Where else can the joyful (games, fun, diversion) be combined with the helpful (charity)? If luck holds out, there will also be an un-loseable raffle, along with countless other aces up countless other sleeves. It will be as worthwhile as ever and don’t forget: When you lose, others win! Strong drinks, liqueur and soft music will also be on offer – we promise!

THE FAMOUS LAUREN BARRI HOLSTEIN: THEATERWORKSHOP ZU POPKULTUR, FEMINISMUS UND IDENTITÄT

Hatred against women and all those existing beyond conventional ideas of gender and sexual or romantic orientation is present globally. Social media, magazines and antifeminist statements by celebrities spam especially women with contradicting messages on what they are supposed to be and represent. This workshop will explore this difficult terrain under the lead of London-based choreographer and performance artist THE FAMOUS Lauren Barri Holstein.
As Holstein puts it:
We will learn about contemporary, radical practices in theatre, art and performance that question our understanding of what theatre/performance can be. We will encourage ourselves to explore our bodies as means of both composition and meaning. We will get a clearer idea of how pop culture – pop stars, celebrity culture, social media, YouTube and other things that I’m too old for – has influenced our self-worth and our relation to our own bodies, to origin, race, culture, sex, gender, class, abilities, politics etc. This will be an intense, risky, weird, goofy, inspiring and challenging workshop. Get ready for something strange!

We aim to create a space in which mainstream feminism can and shall be criticised for its whiteness and for not reflecting on its privilege. Therefore, we particularly encourage those to apply who experience othering and marginalisation in aspects such as origin, race, culture, religion, queerness, gender or disability. We want to enter in exchange with a diverse as possible group.

Women in Battle-Rebellische Frauen

In her poetry collection, ‘Why am I so sad when I am so cute’, Ingvild Lothe offers a succinct commentary on the role of women in the 1980s. Her writing playfully addresses expectations, career dreams, sexuality, the Tinder craze and loneliness. She is followed by the trio Amina Bile, Sofia Nesrine Srour and Nancy Herz: they scrutinise integration from a new angle, providing profound insights into the lives of young Muslim women in Norway’s welfare state. Lastly, Marta Breen’s graphic novel, ‘Rebellious Women’ gives a humorous and visually appealing overview of the last 150 years of the feminist battle. The evening will be lead by the Berlin-based collective Fx Trouble, which consists of the choreographers and artists Roni Katz, Agata Siniarska and Xenia Tanik Dwertmann. For several years, the friendship-based collective has run VULVA CLUB in various Berlin locations, a platform from which they, alongside other artists, present queer and feminist responses to current issues and discourses. The second evening introduces performer Anne Tismer and writer as well as filmmaker Lars Brandt with Julia Voss guiding the discussion on the forgotten Norwegian author Dagny Juel.

THE BEATIFICATION OF FERAL BENGA

In his performance The BEATification of Feral Benga, Athi-Patra Ruga will carry out the BEATification of the cabaret artist and dancer Feral Benga, who saw himself as the male equivalent of Josephine Baker. Combining pictures of the Cabaret Nègre in Berlin in the twenties and performances by the two dancers, the question of which images nations and nationalism depend on will be critically explored. In a celebration that switches between exoticism, its parody and ecstasy, Ruga will unite both artists in himself and, in a ritual full of dystopian energy and dark power, allow the audience to take part in a dance it will not be able to resist losing itself in.

GULA

As part of NORDWIND Festival 2017, Vincent Sekwati Koko Mantsoe will show his second solo performance developed by himself: Gula (Bird). Birds as a world of fascination: they can fly, communicate with their bodies, can maintain their position in the air against
the wind and communicate via harmonies – precisely and unceasingly. Mantsoe goes in search of the movement of birds and creates
a fascinating dance piece somewhere between break-dance, ballet and traditional African dance that suspends gravity.

The pieces Je(u) by Laurent Chétouane and Gula by Vincent Sekwati Koko Mantsoe will be presented for the first time together at NORDWIND and can be seenas a reflection of the different dance traditions inAfrica and Europe.

WHEN YOUR REFLECTION SPEAKS

Based on the story of the Inuit, whose ancestors were dragged around Europe as exhibits in the eighteenth century, Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory goes in search of her own ancestors and links them with current questions: what does it mean to be forced into a role?
How much do cultures depend on codified images? How can these images be changed, distorted, painted over? Williamson Bathory suspends the traditional post-colonial view in her piece through the combination of the traditional Greenlandic mask dance, uaajeerneq, and contemporary video art. In a powerful performance that moves between dance, video and orchestral music, she creates a space that expresses both an atmosphere of irony and mischief, and of violence and fear.

STILL / LIFE

STILL/LIFE is simply the story of the rise and fall of man, and the cycle of time within which we are caught. Qudus Onikeku intend to simultaneously make visible the head and the tail of the same coin at the same time, to identify those motives that preoccupies men of power, and slowly transform them into a murderous monster. Above all, he invites his audience to confront their contradictions and oppositions, to reflect on schizophrenia, as a symptomatic feature of the world mankind lives in. In this highly collaborative piece, this proposition is dealt with great virtuosity and combining dance, acrobatics, music, oral poetry, video and visual art.

Their album, Mystery of Aether, released in 2012, is the fifth album the musicians have recorded together. Jimi Tenor and Kabu Kabu will now present their music to the Berlin audience for the first time at NORDWIND: full of energy and humour, and extremely danceable.

DOLASTALLAT

Dolastallat – To have a campfire is an experimental short film, which tells about a Sámi woman going to the mountains in Kola Peninsula, and having a modern campfire with an unexpected creature. The vast landscape has hints of Arctic mining industry, and there is also a reference to the old Sámi myth. The work is also a portrait of its auteur.

ORIENT EXPRESS

In 1985, Dafna Maimon’s father opened the first falafel and kebab restaurant in Finland; Orient Express. Located in a shopping mall in Helsinki city centre, the restaurant introduced Finns to the previously unknown delicacies of the Middle East. At the same time, the fast-food restaurant was for many immigrants a work place that provided them with the documents necessary to obtain a residence permit and a start of a new life in Finland. Some years ago, Maimon found a rather strange high-budget video ad from 1986, which her father had produced, and which used his own exoticness in a high paced narrative to market kebabs in Finland. Starting from this autobiographical material and video-relic, Maimon is conducting a micro historical research, in which the workings of memory, family roles and the effects of destructive patriarchal structures are analyzed and weaved into a world of docufiction, spanning over performance video and installation. At the symposium on the 11th of November, Maimon will show the original ad and give a talk about her work-process and experience of growing up within a culture-clashing environment in which very patriarchal albeit ‘liberal’ behavior was the way of life. In Galerie Wedding,
she will restage set elements and surroundings from the Orient Express ad
, in which she will blend her own present experiences with her father’s autobiographical-material.

Symposium ‚Perspectives – New Production Modules‘

Taking curatorial practice and artistic development that is becoming increasingly global and networked as its starting point, the symposium participants will ask the following question: which production models are possible in the context of international cooperation? Moving away from working conditions based on financial and staff hierarchies, strategies are to be developed in which resources are shared equally and funding functions as a transmitter without having an effect on artistic decisions.

Hegemonies and dominances in the shared working process will be critically questioned and their causes discussed in dialogue. Especially for artistic processes, in which the artistic potential dominates more strongly on the one side and the financial funding on the other, possibilities for equality in working structures are to be found. With its many artists from the African continent and the Nordic countries, as well as working with different funding bodies and supporters, the NORDWIND festival will provide the starting point and main material for discussion at the symposium.

MÄRCHENSTUNDE MIT RENATE STAHL – DIE KICK-ASSQUEEREOKÉ (DEUTSCHLAND)

Once upon a time … a long, long time ago, there was a beautiful princess who wanted to be a contestant on The Voice, but failed miserably. Because she embarrassed herself in front of the whole kingdom, she was to be beheaded. But she was saved from her oubliette by a horde of oddly singing, no f***s giving, hipster homos. They lived happily ever after, mainly because their off-key notes created a king of bulletproof protective shield. Yes, we are talking about KICK-ASS-QUEEREEOKÉ, your magical karaoke show with fairy-power and a lot of bitchcraft!

LOST IN THE HORIZON

Samovarteateret is the northern most professional theatre in the world, located in the northern Norwegian town Kirkenes. The town is located only 12 kilometres from the Russian border and 50 kilometres from the Finnish one. Just as Lampedusa is the southernmost Schengen border, Kirkenes abuts the northernmost. For more than 27 years Samovarteateret has developed new-written drama from this border region, and develop their one working methodology. Samovarteateret will present work in proses from the new performance they are producing LOST IN THE HORIZON. The starting point for this proses was the Schengen border. At Kampnagel, they also will document their multilingual artistic work with videos and early excerpts from the proses with LOST IN THE HORIZON. And they will invite viewers to a workshop for the exchange of the Samovar Methodology.

QUEENS IN EXILE

QUEENS IN EXILE is a journey that utilises throat singing from two polarities: that of the Xhosa (Thembu) Umnqokolo and the award-winning Canadian (Inuk) musician Tanya Tagaq. Together with musician and performer Angel-Ho, Athi-Patra Ruga and Tanya Tagaq will celebrate a ritual of dystopian energy and abysmal power. Their songs of displacement and unrequited love set the tone for the new struggles for a generation in exile.
