Nils Gaup, born in 1955, is a Sami-Norwegian director and one of the most important representatives of Sami culture. The Tromsø International Film Festival is one of the biggest film festivals in Norway. As part of the celebrations for the 100-year anniversary of the Sami National holiday, the Tromsø International Film Festival showed four Sami films representing the Sami community. Using music and film and with suggestively powerful images, the Pathfinder project combines the search for one’s own origins and re-contextualises the historical film document with contemporary compositions.
