Since 2006, NORDWIND has showcased over 1,500 artists through performances, exhibitions, films, discussions, and concerts, with partners in Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, as well as in France, the UK, the USA, and other locations.
Founded as a showcase for Nordic art, NORDWIND has evolved over the years into a platform and collaborative partner for a variety of institutions. It continually shifts its profile and questions its own purpose as a festival by moving away from single artistic presentations to becoming a space and platform that fosters and seeks sustainable exchange between artists, audiences, and cultural institutions.
To this end, NORDWIND will move beyond the traditional timeframe of a festival, redeveloping its long-term program with various international partners. Additionally, the biennial NORDWIND Festival will continue to take place. Aiming to achieve this sustainable impact, NORDWIND will become a transdisciplinary platform for artists, scholars, and innovative thinkers.
Having operated in a biennial format, NORDWIND now seeks to transform into a transdisciplinary platform, moving beyond a mere showcase with carefully curated highlights.
“New Allies” – this theme sets the tone for this year’s edition of the NORDWIND Festival. Among others, Elle Sofe Sara, Hanin Georgis, Harald Beharie, Sandra Kolstad, Valgeir Sigurðsson, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe, Elisabeth Klinck, and AFIA will present works that critically and empoweringly explore themes of homeland, habitat, and identity.
The Tandem Residency Program, launched for the first time this year, connects local artists from Hamburg with Nordic colleagues. As part of Microspace, a collaborative project by Yolanda Gutiérrez and Kajan Luc with four Hamburg schools, 100 students will work alongside professional dancers to explore migration patterns through the lens of microorganisms, asking the question, “How do these organisms define their places, movements, and spaces?”
