Ich lüge, um zu weinen

SIGNA

#EXHIBITION

For NORDWIND’s 20th anniversary edition, SIGNA returns to the festival and presents a site-specific visual arts work in Germany for the first time. ICH LÜGE, UM ZU WEINEN transforms the Hubertus Wald Forum of the Hamburger Kunsthalle into an immersive exhibition landscape between ethnographic museum and fictional world.

Tableau-like scenes, familiar everyday objects, and seemingly documentary arrangements create an atmosphere that is both unsettling and deeply moving. SIGNA explores disguise and transformation as strategies of deception and survival, asking how femininity is shaped, altered, and concealed in order to exist within social structures.

The museum becomes a mask: what is presented is not a stable truth, but a space of constant transformation between reality and staging. An intense spatial experience for museum visitors as well as for audiences familiar with SIGNA’s legendary immersive theatre worlds.

In 2007, the Danish-Austrian performance duo was already part of NORDWIND’s programme in Berlin with Dorine Chaikin Institute, shortly before their international breakthrough. Since then, SIGNA has become one of the defining names in immersive theatre and has been celebrated in Hamburg for five productions at Deutsches Schauspielhaus (2011–2023).
