A secret sun shines for everyone – and yet it belongs only to a few.
SECRET SUN, the third part of the trilogy “Distant Resonances” by Sounding Situations, invites audiences to a unique electro-mass: In St. Gertrud’s Church, the evening transforms into a ceremony between techno set and promise of salvation, where the dynamics of gathering and exclusion come into focus. Outside, a debate has just taken place on whether a non-human entity should be granted political power. Inside, the Inner Circle celebrates the outcome and its belief in a better world. It reveals a desire to hand over responsibility.
As a sound magician, Klaus Janek shapes the pulse of the evening on illuminated platforms: beats, drops, extended moments of silence, and fragments of Parsifal that resonate from the past into the present. Soprano Nina Guo performs passages from Wagner’s opera, while Hauke Heumann leads the mass as a party priest, deciding who is allowed to belong.
The audience becomes part of the ceremony, moving between inside and outside, at times placed at the centre, at times excluded. In the end, everyone leaves the space transformed, whether blessed or not.
