Candice Breitz is a Berlin-based South African Jewish artist whose moving image installations have been shown internationally. Her work explores how individuals develop in relation to communities, addressing themes such as national identity, race, gender, religion and the impact of mass media. In her current work, she focuses on the conditions of empathy, questioning how it is created in a media-driven culture where fictional identifications are often juxtaposed with real empathy.
